The best medical care for your child isn’t always close to home, and families often find themselves travelling long distances to be with their child in hospital.
Our 14 Houses across the UK give families a warm and comfortable place to rest, eat and relax, just moments away from their child’s hospital ward. Our support is invaluable to families at a critical time in their lives.
James was born 9 weeks prematurely. When he was 5 days old he was rushed to Birmingham children's hospital ICU. He had gone into septic shock and was fighting for his life. Not living locally to Birmingham it would have meant we had to drive 45 mins to the hospital. The thought of leaving and being that far away never crossed our minds. When on the unit a nurse caring for James applied for us to stay at Ronald McDonald house. Ronald McDonald is just a 2 minute walk from the children's PICU. Thankfully they was able to offer us a room to stay while James was so incredibly poorly. We didn't use the room much but it was a place we could rest for a few hours and shower. But most importantly it kept us so close to our boy. All they ask is for £25 till you hand back the key and you get that back. And you can be there the whole time your child is at the hospital. This charity does so much for families that are in the same position as we was'
